Speaking of Wall•E...

I really like that this short served as an homage to older animation like Merry Melodies, it's a sign of how far the medium has come that computer animation can really match the full expression, character and manic pacing of the original greats.

Movie Magic

Okay so it's not like you haven't heard it from everyone else, but I thought this movie was more or less perfect, I've never been so blown away. And the robots! So many robots I thought I would die!

The movie made me feel so happy and optimistic, there's a lot of real joy in it. It dissipated a little bit once I got out of the theater and back to real life. Transitioning from the views of space offered by Wall•E to the dull starless O'Hare sky was a downer for sure.

Taste of Chicago

When I went to the Taste last summer it was hot and overcrowded and in general I didn't have  a good time. This year the heat was pretty much the same but we got to Grant Park around eleven today and missed most of the crowds. I had a beignet, a vegetarian gyro, and some chocolate ice cream. I meant to be more adventurous with the foods I tried but my stomach was not in the mood this morning. I left with a sunburn and a full afternoon behind me.

I also got to get a better glimpse of Renzo Piano's Modern Wing addition to the Art Institute and we all agreed it's shaping up to be a really great building.

The Villains of Verona at the Orphanage

Their final show on Saturday night. Thanks for being a band that made good music, and thanks for being my friends.
