New Shibuya Station by Tadao Ando

I got to love Ando's work and theories when I was researching him for my house project last semester. This new station is environmentally friendly and takes the commuter experience into account.
"Ando's design--dubbed the Underground Spaceship after the giant egglike structure floating in the middle of the station--uses what he calls the natural ventilation system. The system is based on science that just about any primary school child understands: hot air rises, cold air sinks. In the station, the hot air generated by incoming trains, body heat, electronics and other machines rises and dissipates through a gigantic duct more than 30 meters deep and 10 meters wide. Conversely, fresh air is brought into the station, cooling the trains and the station, all without the help of fans or other machinery."

Looking at this 360º view, it's amazing how much light comes down into the station. A lot nicer than the stop at 23rd and 8th that I used to have to use.

Ammonite Sink

I love seeing cool ideas like this for the home, there are two main downsides though. It reminds me that

a) Everything costs a lot.

b) I live at home and share with my brother a bedroom that hasn't changed in appearance since I was in 8th grade.

Backyard murders

Half my family leaves today on a trip, and my father returns from his. The first thing he tells me is that a tiny rabbit was found in the yard, missing a head. We go to examine the scene but the body is now missing entirely.

It could be a cat, a fox, or maybe a coyote but whatever it is my dad wants me to watch over the backyard and shoot it with a bb gun if I see it. Now if this were last summer I'd have the time but there are other things I'd rather do than spend my free time protecting a family of rabbits.

Where the Hell is Matt - completed!

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo.

I love this goofy video. I keep thinking that maybe it's not worth it to live and work abroad - but this reminded me that I should really keep pursuing it.

IceClean

I don't see myself recommending software that much on this site (though I still haven't figured out what this blog should really cover), but I've been using an app called IceClean the past few weeks and it's really powerful, full-featured, and free.

It's basically a utility to keep MacOS (especially Leopard) clean and running smooth, and has a lot of nice features for managing your mac.

I keep putting it off - but I'm trying to tell myself that I'll put up more photos of my work from last semester up on here today. I'll see what things look like after work.
