GBV - Alone, Stinking and Unafraid

2001 - via PopZeus
Classic Robert Pollard

"Another drinking song. 'Fuck it, they do it every time to you. Let's go get drunk.' I don't know. Maybe it's about getting drunk by yourself, which is something I don't do very well. I'm a social drinker. It's another breast-beater, too. I like writing breast-beating alcohol songs. Chest-beating, I mean. In celebration of it. Is that wrong?"

The Great Pyramid

Yes, it feels weird to face the unescapable fact that we will die. Yes, having made a stone reservation will make death not any more pleasant. Yes, there is probably no urgent need to care about your potential grave or memorial. But yes: We all miss people who are not with us anymore and we too will be gone one day - all of us.

A group of architects were trying to think of something that would bring new economic growth and tourism to East Germany. Their solution: a pyramid in which any person may be entombed. A democratic pyramid whose shape and size would be determined by the number of people who chose to participate.
It's ridiculous and I love it. The project put a book out this fall and I would venture to say that this is going somewhere, eventually at least.
Reserve your stone here.

Star Wars: A New Heap

Star Wars and modernism. Really really amazing.

Even the initially smooth and unitary form of the Death Star was shown, as the rebel fighters skimmed its surface, to be deeply fissured with an ever-diminishing body of structural fragments. These crenulated details suggested a depth and complexity to modern life that modernism’s pure geometries often obscured.

Light It Up!

My old classmate Johne has been putting together a really thoughtful and well-curated sourcebook for Oberlin photo. I especially liked his latest post on Korean photographers.
