Janitor Lamp

So you have to climb the ladder to turn the light on or off, making you think about whether you really need to use that electricity at all.

It reminds me of the Gravia, the lamp concept where you'd lift a heavy weight above your head, the energy used powering the light for a certain amount of time. I think their math was wrong and it won't actually work, but I love the idea.

Inconveniencing people who want to turn a light on might not really change the world but at least these concepts get you thinking.

bad branding

The UK Office of Government Commerce just redid their logo:

Seems pretty normal until you turn it sideways:

This is why the UK is so wonderful, the group is defending the logo and a spokesperson added this:

We concluded that the effect was generic to the particular combination of the letters 'OGC' - and is not inappropriate to an organisation that's looking to have a firm grip on government spend.

Happy Earth Day

I didn't do anything in particular, I think it was a pretty low-key holiday at this college. Was it the same in other places? I dunno.

Anyway Wired posted a bunch of amazing satellite photos taken of Earth, so it was one thing I guess.
